Ramadan Festival is a Western Muslim initiative to develop a platform for faith inspired cultural narratives about the Muslim diaspora. It is an international creative cultural education programme focusing on celebration of shared human values of generosity hospitality and celebration.
The first annual British Ramadan Festival was successfully held in August 2008, with the goal of bringing together Muslims and non-Muslims establishing a platform to explore creative cultural narratives through Islamic spirituality and preventing the growing polarisation between Western and Islamic communities.
Our method of delivery is primarily rooted in culture and the creative arts, harnessing the unifying qualities of creativity- art, music, dance, food and debate -and promoting interaction, we have been able to create an invaluable space for cohesive discourse to occupy, a defining force for renewal within British civil society. |

Ramadan Festival was initiated by Ahmed Larouz, the two main goals of the previous Festivals were, closing the social gap between Muslims and non-Muslims. These goals were achieved through acquaintance and dialogue in various forms and activities between diverse groups in society. The unfamiliarity between people was taken away and people were offered an insight in each others' world and experiences. Over 150 Muslim organizations, mosques, other (non-Muslim) organizations and many other interested parties - such as Muslim families and Prime Minister Balkenende - worked together and organized iftars, lectures, debates, hospitality dinners and a sparkling Eid ul Fitr for kids. All in all, the Ramadan Festivals have been a great success.

Our added commitment this year is to highlight the generosity of Muslims that takes place during Ramadan & beyond. Mosques and Shrines are traditionally places where iftar is available for those in need. The 'Fast & Feed' project is focusing on feeding the homeless from multicultural backgrounds at various Mosques and Centres across the U.K and abroad.

Sponsored by the Mayor of London the annual event in Trafalgar Square proved a fantastic success with the Ramadan Festival inspiring a diversity of Muslim creative cultural performers and artists in 2009. The Director of Ramadan Festival is this year chairing the Eid committee and pledges to create an even more spectacular line up of events. (Free event)
